Writing a Proposal

I have a friend who suggested that I might want to submit a proposal for my current WIP while I'm writing the novel. I have a great start, and would really like to know more about this process.

Does anyone have any advice, links, or book suggestions about writing proposals? I am seriously clueless.

Is your book fiction or non-fiction? For fiction, every agent I've read about insists on a finished manuscript. For non-fiction, you can write a proposal. I don't know anything more about non-fiction though, just that the book doesn't have to be complete.

Jane Friedman (Writer's Digest) posts a lot of information like this on Twitter. You can find her here:

Good luck!

Thanks for that. I have a good start (20,000 words) to my pregnancy memoir and, though I am working on a YA fantasy piece as well, I'd really like to complete this before it fades from memory. hmmm, now that I see it's 20,000 words, I may have to trim it down a bit, I'm only through the first trimester in each pregnancy. Eh, maybe 60,000 words wouldn't be a bad first draft. Thanks again.
