The Aspiring Writers Pledge

If you are anything like me, you've been dabbling in writing for much of your life, but have never actually taken the steps towards becoming published - maybe you haven't even completed your first book. I have to admit, I've been working on my pregnancy memoir since 2008 and working on my young adult (YA) novel for over a year as well, so...

I'm a full-time student and mother, writing is not what I get to spend most of my time on during the day. I am also not one to flourish under the pressure of NaNoWriMo and besides, that's just to write a manuscript - this is pledge is for the entire processes - drafting, finalizing, editing, seeking publishing and (hopefully) seeing your name on the cover of your first book.

Now, I'm taking this pledge too; a promise to myself and my supporters, that I will take the steps necessary to further my writing and my career in 2010.

So, who's with me?

If you are ready to join in and make a promise (or at least really try), join me - feel free to join in whenever you are ready. I would really love to see would-be authors who have yet to publish but anyone who needs that boost should join us. Please, take this seriously and post the following in your blog, linking back to this post.

I, ______________, take The Aspiring Writers Pledge to write a book in 2010 with the intent of publishing. I promise to update my progress weekly, ask when I need support and encourage others to complete the task at hand.
Again, copy and paste this post in your blog (Facebook, Twitter, whatever) and link back to this post. Be sure to subscribe or become a follower here as well and then comment to introduce yourself so others can start following your blog as well.

And, don't forget to add this badge to your blog as well.

This is our journey from aspiring writers to novelist in 2010.

Hi Liz. I'm Zoe's running buddy. :) This is great! I'm going to take the pledge and post it on my writing blog (http://howtobeanauthor.blogspot.com). I finally decided what genre I want to write: picture books, so now I'm gonna go after it like I'm doing with all this marathon training!

Found your blog via Facebook. I'm the full time mommy of one hyperactive four-year-old, so I empathize with not always having time to write. I've been puttering away at a story for about five years now, and have finally settled down to really finish it.

Your pledge is a great idea...I've posted it on my writer's blog over at http://nightphoenix.com. Added you to my blogroll as well!

Joining the fray--Great idea!!!
I'm Heather, host of Craftlit.com podcast. First YA novel done and in the hands of agents, sequel 1/3 drafted (but a first draft...so...you know...).
Mother, knitter, spinner, Professor, Ed writer, blogger (mamaoknits.com) volunteer...yikes! That's a lot when I write it out that way. Thank you for the push in the right direction.

Great post!! Your blog is so organized!

I respect your hard work and understand it must be so challenging to make this pledge while attending school and working full-time as a mother. Good for you!! :)

Sorry *ahem* there's a typo there. I do apologise, the last "to" should be "too". Dang I can fail at typing sometimes..

Goodness, thought I posted earlier, but I'll post again. Love this idea! I posted the pledge on Thursday over on my blog. My Writing Journey

I'm the mother of four kids. I've always written things down, and my current book has been swirling through my mind for years. Two years ago I finally wrote it down in all of its 60K crappy glory. I put it away for several months, but came back and started revisions. I need to be more consistent so I can finish and send it out into the world. In Jan I decided it was time to get serious, so thanks for the extra help!

Although I can't commit to a novel, I am pledging to work on at least one of my novels every day in 2010. It would be very cool to have one completed though. :) I'm adding you to my blog roll and hopefully we can cheer each other on this year!

Hi! This is just a quick note to let you know I linked this article in my February review at Wordpress. I can't figure out how to do trackbacks to Blogger. I'm also tweeting it either tonight or tomorrow.

I made this promise internally in January. Now, I'll hop on the wagon and make it publicly. Thanks for the opportunity to join others on the road to completed manuscripts and hopeful submissions.

Cheers!

What a wonderful idea. I've decided to join in as well. Although my goals are a little different. I'm not prepared to produce a novel just yet. Nonetheless I've committed myself to serious targeted writing exploits to bring me one step closer.

I've added your button and referenced the pledge on my blog:

Best of luck!

Took the pledge. It's on my facebook page. I've created an event page for the actual writing to record my progress.

Its a wonderful idea and I absolutely love the it! However, I know I would fail if I were to take this pledge. I'm just not ready to set specific goals. But I will be some day, and when I am, hopefully I will still be able to take the pledge. (Hope it doesn't lose anything because I will probably being using a different year.)

Anyway, good luck to you, and everyone else who has pledged! I admire you all!

ok, so I am taking this pledge...it is exactly the kick in the ass my procrastinating, ADD, self needs to treat my writing as more than just a hobby!
A little about myself...
I am a stay at home mom of 6 kids ages 18,11,10,8,6,3. I love being home with them but yes, they do lead to mucho distractions! My house is never clean and I often write in the most undisciplined way possible...that is I get inspired and rip through a page or pages and then often don't return to it for months as I hate the revisions.
My inspirations and loves are all things Beat...that's the Beat Generation, Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs. I also have a love for the chew 'em up and spit 'em out, grab 'em by the balls work, of Hubert Selby Jr. My writing is not mainstream and is not for everyone, but that's ok there are many small presses out there that may someday appreciate it.
Well that's all folks...

I would love to join your party. I do not need the boost to write but my husband is nagging me to take the next step and do something with all the novels I'm writing. So I promised him I would pursue publication this year - 2011. So I am adding your pledge to my blog as a reminder every day to take one more step closer to the ... fire?

Feel free to check me out at jodijanz.blogspot.com
I am writing a raw and first-draft story right on my page.
